Pool Curing

Pool Curing
Originally uploaded by epursey
Now the pool is filled but no swimming yet. We have to sweep it 2-3 times a day. Right now it is very creamy and white. The goal is to sweep all the plaster dust to the filter intake. We will be able to swim next weekend but we will have to wash our feet before we go in. The plaster is still very porous so if we step on it with dirty, oily, sunscreeny feet we will leave stains on the pool surface. Curing takes about 14 days but after 7 if we are careful about washing our feet and not reentering with dirty feet we can swim.

Pool Steps

It is very hot here today. Over 100. We had to shade the steps with a tarp so the sun was not on them. We may have to bum some water off our neighbors. The plaster will crack if it gets to hot.

Well we got our plaster done a day early. We were going to day camp today but the kids were sick last night and i was sick this morning so i called last night and said we were not going to be there. Dane our pool construction guy called last night and wanted to know if we could be here today to do plaster and since we were all sick i said, sure why not. It only took them about 2 hours.

Summer Camp

Max has been in summer camp the last couple of days. I am working there all week also. Derek is volunteering to. He will earn something for Boy Scouts. I think it is part of his community service stuff. It's a Cub Scout camp so Max will get belt loops for fishing, BB guns, archery, and his pin in archery.

I got the boys season passed at Raging waters (it's a water park). I think we are going to go after camp today.

Almost done

Almost done

Everything is done except plaster. They fixed the pool light. It wasn't really broken. We had a leak and the safty switch tripped like it should have and turned the light compleatly off. That is a good thing we just did not know it happened. So now it works again. The step is done in the hot tub and has been lowered. Lastly they plumbed for the waterfall. Oh! They are also going to seal the coping. So maybe someone will be here tomarrow. Come to think of it they need to put a drain cover on the waterfall intake so yeah not quite done. Plaster will be blown in on June 21, then we fill the pool with water and sweep for 12 days. We also have to check the chemicals everyday. So yes by July 4th we should be able to swim!!! Yay!

Here is a close up of the tile we picked with the coping. Right now everything is a bit dusty. Once they rinse it off and seal the coping it will be darker. Also you can see the ledge that was made by raising the coping. In the future we will do a stone overlay. In order to do that they needed to raise the coping, thus all the cement they brought in.

Coping almost finished

Originally uploaded by epursey
Everything is moving along. The coping is almost done and next is tile. We are also having a step put in the hot pool. It was already quite a large step to get into and now it is even worse with the coping being raised. So this will help.

One more day

They should be done with demolition today. I don't know if they will get to the next thing or not. They brought in tons of cement mix so my guess is that will be something they do.

John mentioned yesterday that it must be unpleasent for me to be in the house with all the noise. It's loud there is no denying that but it does not seem to bother me. I find that rather odd. Maybe it's because I really want a new pool?

In other news

The boys last day of school is Friday the 13th. This week Derek has 3 field trips. He is walking with his class to Dartmouth, his new school next year, a GATE sponsored science cruise in the bay and on Friday, swimming and sliding at Raging waters. Max is also going on a GATE field trip. It is not clear where they are going. At first they had decided on the children's Museum but i think they changed the trip. Not sure where.

The leak under the house is fixed. I called the city and there is a program we can apply for to get back some money.

Our cats are all sick? Well 2 of them are. Lots of throwing up :( Not sure if it's all the construcion in the back or what. They are eating the same food. I did notice some grass in one of the piles.

Demo is moving slow. They are having to chip off not 1 but 2 layers of plaster. The last plaster job was not great so we could not just sand blast and plaster. But we knew this was a possiblity so it's not a surprise. Also our first selection of tile is not in stock so we are looking at tile again. Tonight or tomarrow Dane is going to bring by a chunk of coping so we can make sure we like the new tile up next to it.

They are coming Monday to start chipping the plaster. So the boys will have the rest of today for racing cars in the pool.

For this and the next picture i am standing in the pool.
